It's certainly something that we greatly feel needs to be addressed and thoroughly considered before any PR or communications professional engages their client or organization in similar opportunities.

Regarding how firm of a stance PRSA takes against or for certain industry practices, I think our recent track record speaks for itself in several cases. A few pertinent cases where we have taken on pressing issues, or acted as a "watchdog" for the profession include denouncing the unethical product review practices of Reverb Communications (http://ht.ly/38kGv); letters to the editor of the Financial Times (http://ht.ly/38kMF) and The New York Times (http://ht.ly/38kOd) published, nothing the unethical communications practices of political front groups (FT letter) and praising the FTC for planned revisions to its green guides for environmental marketing (NYT letter); along with a recent Op-Ed in PRWeek (http://ht.ly/38kTu) on the need for full disclosure in political advertising and messaging.

As you can see, we have taken a strong and proactive stance against a number of pertinent public relations and business issues, and hopefully, in some small way, we have helped shape the public's perception of PR being an ethical and beneficial professional for a variety of audiences.

Thanks again for your compliment and great commentary on Gary McCormick's AdAge Op-Ed. Hopefully, you'll have many more opportunities to weigh in on commentary PRSA offers both the PR and business communities in the weeks and months to come.

Keith Trivitt
Associate Director of Public Relations
Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)
http://www.prsa.org/

Re: My Political Compass.

Interesting that state capitalist and market socialist are appealing to you since they're logically diametric opposites. I suspect that the sentiment underlying your at least partial admiration of both is the notion of 'checks and balances.' My approach to 'power corrupts' is 'abolish power' (both political and economic) hence my decidedly third-quadrant score of -7.00,-8.41. If anything stopped me from scoring a perfect -10,-10, it's that nagging question of 'who will bell the cat,' and of course that sense that a program of reform/revolution consistent with my stated values could become quite a leap of faith once things actually come to a head.

Re: Apple’s iPad And Healthcare Reform.

One of the usually overlooked areas of the iPad's anticipated success within the healthcare vertical will be its attendant impact on point of care patient education...with its expanded screen real estate (versus that of the smaller smartphones/iPhones) and ergonomic advantages, docs and nurses will use them to SHOW patients things about their conditions and treatments via existing and new to-come apps ... besides tying into clinical records, insurance and the like, the iPad will improve patient education by providing an enhanced, more convenient viewing environment for the many apps that will deliver information the layperson can understand and readily comprehend... one already existing example would be our Blausen Human Atlas iPhone app, coming soon to the iPad (www.blausen.com/iphone).
Bruce Blausen CEO Blausen Medical

Re: Corporation Will Run For Congressional Seat.
